SUMMARY:
Fort Albany First Nation provides First Nation Representative and Prevention Services support and advocacy to registered and affiliated Fort Albany First Nation members involved with Child Welfare agencies. The intention of this position is to ensure that all notifications from Child Welfare agencies are responded to and addressed within the mandated timeframe. The First Nation Representative and Prevention teams will ensure that all members or affiliates of Fort Albany First Nation will have support and advocacy present or available when working with all Child Welfare agencies.
Reporting to the Prevention Team Supervisor, the Prevention Services Worker is responsible for providing prevention services support to children, youth and families who are identified at risk. Prevention Services Worker organize and deliver prevention programs and activities for children, youth, parents, and the community in general. The Prevention Services Worker is a key part of our prevention program. The Prevention Services Worker will participate in case planning and wrap around service delivery to children, youth, and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in developing and maintaining the program objectives, policies, and procedures.
• Provide direction regarding service delivery standards and organization policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with community organizations to create awareness and prevention on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
• Provide leadership and actively participate in developing new services or approaches.
• Document all program activities for reporting purposes and have excellent communication skills.
• Duties may include having to work occasional evenings or weekends.
• Identify the need for and participate in developing new services or approaches.
• Participate in the community for the purpose of understanding community values, strengths, and concerns related to community wellness.
• Actively seek community partnerships in developing programs and services for prevention and intervention initiatives.
• Establishes effective working relationships with band members and community colleagues directly involved in program/service delivery.
• Provide opportunities for community participation in programming and service delivery.
• Complete workplans and reports
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to travel and must be available to work flexible hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor of Social Work Degree or Social Services Diploma an asset with two (2) years’ experience working in a similar field preferred.
· Strong clinical knowledge of social work theories, practices, superior knowledge, and skill in the Program area.
· Demonstrated leadership skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and work effectively under pressure.
· Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of accountability and liability.
· Must have experience in working directly with First Nations.
· Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
· Be a responsible person of good character, able to maintain confidentiality, professional integrity and present as a positive role model.
· Possess a valid Driver’s Licence with a clear Driver’s Abstract.
