Description
This position is located at our Penhorwood Site which is located approximately 70km west of Timmins towards Foleyet and requires daily travel for scheduled shifts; a travel allowance is provided.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The Sample Processing Technician at Penhorwood Mine reports to the Mine Manager and supports with the mine campaign and related activities. Responsibilities include sampling, preparing and analyzing mine samples and the quality control for both mine and plant laboratory.
JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
- Support mining department in sample preparation, processing, organizing and record keeping of lab results
- Prepare and analyze blastholes samples and infill samples
- Ensure quality control for both Mining and Production Laboratory
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow, adhere and promote company Health and Safety rules
- During Mining campaign months, support the department in preparing and analyzing blast hole samples
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Carry out in-house sampling – XRF, Minolta, Grind study, wet wash, Microscopy
- Coordinate with Resource Geologist and Analytics department in assimilating sampling results from external labs
- to obtain samples and conduct analysis
- Understand local geology and talc grade for ore grading in the pit
- Understand the quality requirement of the Mine and Plant (ISO 2015-9001)
- Manage and calibrate all laboratory equipment
- Maintain the Journal/Daily Logbook updated with all test results and issue mine and lab quality reports
- Review and update laboratory work instructions
- Assist with procurement of lab supplies when necessary
- Tasks and responsibilities will change according to seasonal work being performed at the Penhorwood mill and mine
- Strict adherence to safety procedures required
- Other functions as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements:
- Diploma from a college or university in minerals/mining engineering or Laboratory Technician is preferred but other technical discipline will be considered
- Knowledge and understanding of quality control and quality systems
Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:
- G License
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Power Point
- Understanding sampling and quality rules
- Exhibit strong computer skills
- Demonstrate strong organization skills and attention to detail

HOURS
- 40 hours per week
- Monday to Friday, with every other Friday off
- 9 hours per day plus lunch break
