Surveyor

Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the Surveyor will support the surveying team with geometric measurements and verifying survey data on GIP’s projects.
Primary Scope of Role :
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed for redlines and as-built drawings.
- Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements using surveying instruments such as: total stations, theodolites, GPS, and other robotic survey equipment and software.
- Establish reference points and markers to aid in the guidance of the construction operations.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and documents to determine layout requirements.
- Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
- Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of existing conditions or new construction features.
- Interpret contract items and distribute quantities in applicable unit pay items.
- Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of existing conditions or new construction features.
- Interpret contract drawings and calculate cubic volumes (i.e., cut to waste, cut to fill, sub-excavation)
- Performing topography and quantity surveying for earthworks and construction layout.
- Work closely with Engineers, Architects, and Construction Crews to ensure the layout aligns with design specifications.
- Assist in problem solving any layout related issues that arise before or during construction.
- Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management to support the overall objectives of the company.
Position Requirements :
- Completion of post-secondary diploma in a civil engineering technology/geomatics program.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro survey, and MS Office software.
- Proficient with the use of Topcon GPS and survey measurement equipment.
- Mathematical aptitude to complete surveying calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret Construction Drawings, maps, plans and layout sheets and keep legible survey notes.
- Ability to work with a construction team and report to a project manager and superintendents on a regular basis.
- A valid G class is required
