Job Description: Workforce Experiential Learning Specialist
Type: Full-Time, Contract (One Year)
Location: Timmins Chamber, 1 Pine St. S., Suite 204
This is an in-person position.
Reports To: Manager of Business Services
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Workforce Experiential Learning Specialist (WELS) to lead a one-year initiative aimed at promoting equitable access to student learning placements, streamlining employer access to workforce development programs, and fostering modern, productive workplace practices to support long-term workforce retention and productivity in Timmins. The foundation of this project has been set out, and the WELS will develop and execute an administrative and communication plan.
Key Responsibilities
School Programs Support:
Develop and support equitable access strategies for student experiential learning placements across diverse business sectors;
Partner with educational institutions (both high school and post-secondary) in Northern Ontario and Timmins-based employers to ensure transparent and fair placement opportunities;
Track placement metrics and assess outcomes for continuous improvement;
Act as the primary liaison to schools for programming promotion;
Identify opportunities for employer-student engagement throughout the academic year.
Employer Engagement and Support:
Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of employers;
Serve as a knowledge broker to direct employers to existing workforce resources.
Education and Training Initiatives:
Support the delivery and facilitation of Chamber-hosted educational sessions on contemporary workplace practices, such as inclusive hiring, hybrid work strategies, and employee well-being, guided by Workforce Task Force priorities.
Playbook Development:
Based on employer feedback, update, refine, and build a Chamber-branded practical employer-facing Workforce Playbook webpage to support best practices in hiring, onboarding, and retention;
Develop and execute a focused communications plan to launch and promote the finished playbook.
Research and Advocacy Development:
Support Labour Market Intelligence research by gathering feedback from project participants to identify barriers, talent shortages, and emerging workforce challenges;
Attend and support the Chamber’s Workforce Task Force committee activities, including agenda-setting, action items, projects, and work plan alignment with The Chamber’s strategic goals;
Collaborate with local and regional community partners to align efforts on issue identification, response strategies, and to address emerging needs;
Contribute to Chamber policy briefs and advocacy submissions related to workforce policy development.
Reporting and Administration:
Collect and consolidate feedback from employers, students, and training session participants, and use these findings to inform the Workforce Playbook and program design;
Monitor progress against project milestones and KPIs;
Prepare regular reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders;
Maintain accurate records of contacts made, placement options, employer engagement activities, and training sessions;
Develop, create and execute a communications plan for all pieces related to this initiative.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business, Education, Social Sciences, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication skills including strong stakeholder engagement skills.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Preferred:
Bilingual (French and English).
Familiarity with experiential learning programs, post-secondary education, or related workforce development initiatives is considered an asset.
Experience working with small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), non-profit organizations, or community partners is considered an asset.
Knowledge of workforce development programs, employment services, or government funding opportunities is an asset.
Contract Details
Duration: 1 year (with potential for extension based on funding and performance)
Start Date: September 1, 2026
Compensation: Annual salary of $58,000. (35 hours per week)
