The Timmins Youth Wellness Hub (YWH) is off ering a three-year Youth Employment Support (YES) Worker position.

The vision of the Timmins YWH is to create a community for all youth to connect, belong, and grow.

As a Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO) site, we aim to bring the right services to youth (12-25) and their families at the right time and in the right place. YWHO is improving Ontario’s mental health and addiction services for youth and their families by providing rapid access to mental health and substance use services with walk-in, low-barrier services and clear pathways to service.

JOB SUMMARY

The YES Worker provides individualized vocational and educational supports to help youth with mental health concerns and other needs develop the skills to fi nd and maintain meaningful employment/education and training. The YES worker must demonstrate the professional ability to build working relationships with relevant community partners to contribute to the development of an employment network that is supportive to youth facing multiple barriers to employment.

The YES Worker will also provide employment/education coaching, career exploration support, job readiness skills training, pre-employment workplace / training accommodation planning and implementation.

The YES Worker will connect and refer youth to other members of the Youth Wellness Hub’s team for counselling, care coordination and peer support services and supports as needed. In addition, the YES Worker will liaise with community partners, local employers and service providers to arrange work opportunities and placements. The YES Worker will work closely with Pathways for Regional Occupational Growth, Readiness, Education, and Skill Support (P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S.) to strengthen partnerships and streamline client pathways.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Vocational / educational support to youth, including skills building, education, training, and employment readiness.
  • Assist youth to identify viable education/training/work options
  • Work together with youth to determine and achieve personalized training, educational and employment goals
  • Plan courses of action as a result of assessments, evaluations, and consideration of clients’ physical abilities and mental health
  • Recommend, develop, and implement employment/education/training plans
  • Coordinate with community partners/organizations/businesses to help meet youth employment/education/training needs.
  • Promote Youth Employment Support program to youth, YWH community partners and P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. partners.
  • Advocate on behalf of youth, when necessary
  • Facilitate referrals to identified community resources
  • Contribute to the development of accommodation plans as needed
  • Provide or connect youth to pre-employment services i.e. resumé development, interview coaching
  • As needed, coordinate job trials with employers and other Employment Services agencies
  • Provide job/education support on site as needed
  • Provide or facilitate job retention support
  • Participate in community outreach activities through the development of collaborative partnerships

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in social services, human resources, employment counselling or a related field, is required
  • Minimum of one-year related experience in the mental health and/or employment field is required
  • Excellent organizational skills; demonstrated ability to self-manage time and multiple tasks
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of clients, and collaborate with community resources, colleagues and employers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills versatility and the ability to work effectively at an individual, program and team level
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

SKILLS AND ASSETS

  • Formal Training or Education in: Job Development, Employment Counselling, CBT informed, trauma Informed, Motivational Interviewing, Concurrent Disorders

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Document and maintain electronic youth client records (intake and assessment forms, progress notes, correspondences, client files, etc.)
  • Complete administrative tasks including: program reports and updates, timesheets, etc.
  • Complete other required documents as per program and agency policies, procedures and standards
  • When possible, engage with youth at drop-in and other organized activities at Youth Wellness Hub.
  • Attend and participate in team/staff meetings
  • Participate in external committees as required
  • Other duties as from time to time may be assigned
  • Stay current on relevant employment/ education legislation and best practices
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training
  • Actively engage and participate in supervisory process with supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work directly with individuals living with mental health concerns, dual diagnosis and/or addictions, individuals who are experiencing emotional and/or mental health issues and are working towards recovery
  • There are multiple competing demands which require time management skills, the ability to be flexible and to prioritize
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required

SALARY RANGE

$49,000 to $53,000 per year based on a 35-hour work week.
