Position Summary
The Swim Instructor delivers safe, structured, and engaging aquatic programs that support skill development and water safety. The role ensures participant safety, evaluates progress, and maintains a positive learning environment while following all facility policies and emergency procedures.
Duties
• Plan and deliver safe, engaging, and progressive swim lessons in accordance with established program standards
• Ensure participant safety at all times by enforcing pool rules and maintaining proper supervision and lesson formations
• Evaluate swimmer progress on an ongoing basis and maintain accurate, up-to-date test sheets and progress reports
• Prepare and organize lesson equipment; ensure proper setup and cleanup before and after classes
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pool deck, and teaching areas
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and staff, fostering positive public relations
• Complete administrative tasks, including mid-session reports and final evaluations, accurately and on time
• Respond to emergencies by initiating appropriate emergency procedures in accordance with policies
• Adhere to Facilities and Recreation’s policies and procedures
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Current Lifesaving Swim Instructor certification
• Current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR certification
• Current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector if 18 years of age or older
• Strong knowledge of swim instruction principles and water safety practices
• Ability to plan and deliver structured, progressive lessons for a variety of skill levels
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with children, families, and the public
• Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, and commitment to safety
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
